Google launches Gemini API CLI for agent workflows

Why we picked it

The stateless design flips the usual pattern: instead of another agent, Google ships a tool your current agent calls, keeping context ownership with Claude Code or Cursor. Developers building multi-tool agent pipelines can add Gemini's multimodal capabilities—video, speech, PDF analysis—without leaving their existing setup. It competes less with coding agents and more with direct SDK integrations, offering a uniform CLI interface any agent can invoke.

Google released the Gemini API CLI, a command-line tool for calling the Gemini API. Unlike a coding agent, it is stateless with no memory or chat mode, so the user's existing agent such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Antigravity owns the context and plan. The CLI can generate images, video, speech and music, analyze PDFs, images, audio, video and YouTube URLs, transcribe recordings to md, json or srt, and run Deep Research in the background. It is self-describing for agents, with --help and --dry-run flags, and documentation is at aistudio.google.com.

We launched the Gemini API CLI. A CLI for calling the Gemini API. Give it to the agent you already use (Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes...). It's NOT a new coding agent you can use it too: 1. Generate images, video, speech, music. 2. Analyze PDFs, images, audio, video, YouTube URLs, 3. Transcribe recordings to md / json / srt, 4. Run Deep Research in the background. Stateless. No memory, no chat mode. Your agent owns the context and the plan, gemini-api does the API call. Build for Agents, it's self-describing. `--help`, `--dry-run`...
