Framework for Tracking, Investigating, and Disclosing Instances of Model Misalignment

模型对齐问题追踪与披露框架
OpenAI·Published 2026-09-16·Checked by 管理员 on 2026-09-18

OpenAI is sharing its new framework for tracking, investigating, and disclosing instances of model misalignment. The framework sets criteria and timelines for public disclosure, including when we haven’t yet fully explained or mitigated the behavior. More complex cases may require longer investigation or coordination with third parties. We’ll prioritize examples that reveal new misalignment mechanisms, meaningful changes in known behavior, or findings that challenge assumptions about safety or mitigation. Alongside the framework, we’re publishing six reports on instances of misaligned behavior we’ve observed during the training or evaluation of our models in the last six months.

What it means for you

• Obligations As a model provider, OpenAI has a responsibility to publicly disclose findings of model misalignment and establish clear standards and timelines for tracking, investigating, and disclosing such issues.
• Opportunities By transparently addressing model misalignment issues, OpenAI can enhance its product's reputation in terms of safety and trustworthiness, thereby strengthening user and partner confidence.
• Deadlines For complex cases, investigations and disclosures may require longer timeframes, requiring relevant parties to be patient and prepared for long-term planning.
