We have now reached the point where every frontier AI model must be assessed - and signed off - by the government before it can be released. OpenAI has agreed to stagger the launch of GPT-5.6, with customers approved case by case during its preview period.
Until now, it was easy to assume 5.6 was limited to enterprise because it represented such a big leap over the previous version. But it may be simpler than that - it now needs approval.
