Ethics oversight of health-related research should be contemporaneous in the age of artificial intelligence
The transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on health-related research is widely recognised. However, AI-related health research has novel characteristics that introduce new ethical concerns and risks. The use of AI to carry out health-related research has lowered barriers to conducting such research, and research teams may lack credentials or training in research ethics. The research-to-product lifecycle can be of short duration, exposing populations to unethical practices and safety risks neither identified nor corrected during research or product development.
