Databricks demos agent workflows with Lakebase Postgres branching
Copy-on-write database branching per agent and per PR removes the shared-dev-database bottleneck that breaks parallel agent runs, making CI pipelines safer for schema migrations. Teams building agent-based development workflows can replicate the pattern with GitHub Actions. It echoes Neon-style branching, which Databricks acquired the technology behind, and offers an alternative to managing disposable Postgres instances manually.
Databricks demonstrated a workflow combining Git worktrees with Lakebase Postgres database branching. Each coding agent receives its own isolated copy-on-write database branch to run migrations, test changes and experiment without affecting other environments. GitHub Actions creates a fresh database branch per pull request to validate migrations and preview the app before production.
[DEMO] With Git worktrees and Lakebase Postgres database branching, each coding agent gets its own isolated, copy-on-write branch to run migrations, test changes, and experiment without affecting other environments.
GitHub Actions then creates a fresh database branch per PR to validate migrations and preview the app before anything reaches production.
