OpenAI builds Pando Git backend for large monorepos
Pando signals that agent-driven development, with many automated pushes and fetches, is now the bottleneck forcing infrastructure teams to rebuild version control itself. Teams running large monorepos or heavy CI automation can watch for its release, since OpenAI is gauging external demand before deciding to offer it. Greg Brockman announced it, and interested users can contact him directly.
OpenAI has built Pando, a new Git backend for its monorepo that scales to very large repositories. Pando cut push latency by roughly 80% and now serves nearly a petabyte of Git data per day. It keeps standard Git workflows intact, so engineers and coding agents needed no changes to how they use Git. OpenAI is considering offering Pando to other organisations and is collecting interest via email.
Pando is a Git backend which can scale to very large monorepos. We took the hard road of continuing to use Git, which means we could enable Pando with no change to devex. Considering providing this to others, let me know (gdb @openai .com) if you'd be interested. OpenAI Developers @OpenAIDevs We built Pando, a new Git backend for our monorepo, to handle more pushes and fetches without changing how our engineers and agents use Git. Pando cut push latency by ~80% and now serves nearly a petabyte of Git data a day. We can grow Git capacity alongside agent usage.
