Hy4 matches a top open model on agentic performance at roughly a third of the cost per task, shifting the price-performance frontier for long-horizon agent workloads. Teams building finance, frontend, research or office automation agents can try it now via Tencent's preview page and should benchmark it against Kimi K3.1 Pro before committing. If Tencent open-weights the model as signalled, it becomes a strong free-tier candidate for cost-sensitive deployments across ASEAN and beyond.
Hy4 arriving with native vision signals Tencent pushing its open-weight lineup into multimodal territory, a segment dominated until now by a handful of labs. Developers evaluating open models for document, UI or image-heavy workflows can benchmark it against Qwen-VL and other multimodal open releases. Its stated cyber and biosecurity framing also reflects how Chinese labs are positioning safety in open releases.
The notable detail is cost efficiency: Hy4 preview nearly matches Kimi K3 (Max) on agent performance while cutting per-task spend by about two-thirds, placing it on the Agent Arena Pareto frontier. Teams running open-source agent stacks on a budget should benchmark it against Kimi K3 (Max) when the full Hy4 release lands. Its signal-level strengths in Bash Recovery and tool reliability matter for CLI-heavy workflows.
