Tutor evaluation has relied on costly human studies; StudentSim offers a scalable pre-testing signal before real learner trials, and the 90.5% versus 71.6% RL result shows simulated feedback can outperform raw GPT-5.4 feedback for training tutors. Edtech researchers and teams building tutoring agents can use the StudentSimEval benchmark to compare their simulators. Microsoft positions it as a research tool, not a classroom product or teacher replacement.
