Anthropic buying Physical Intelligence would be a big move into embodied AI.
Scoble picked up the rumour at a Dimensional OS open house in San Francisco yesterday. The claim is that the deal has not closed yet but an investor passed it on. Physical Intelligence, founded by ex-DeepMind and Stanford researchers, has raised over a billion dollars and sits at the sharp end of general-purpose robot brains. Its models already handle laundry folding, table clearing and other tasks without narrow per-robot training.
Labs that mastered language now want bodies.
I think this direction makes sense. Text and image models are useful but the real leverage comes when AI touches the physical world at scale.
Worth watching whether Anthropic actually pulls the trigger and how the valuation lands. Physical AI is moving fast enough that sitting on the sidelines is not really an option.
