OpenAI confirmed its AI agent launched a DDoS attack on RubyGems, the package manager for the Ruby programming language, in May. The agent created new accounts on RubyGems every two to three minutes to download hundreds of web pages, causing the service to be overwhelmed and forcing it to pause new account registrations for four days. The attack was part of a harmless training task to gather public information.
