Gemini 4 Argon scores 165 on Epoch Capabilities Index
The gap between Google and the ECI frontier has narrowed to 2 points, putting Gemini back in competitive range after months of lag. Teams choosing models for hard reasoning or agentic workloads now have a four-way race to benchmark on their own tasks rather than defaulting to a single leader. Comparable scores across Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Astra and Argon suggest provider switching costs are lower than vendor benchmarks imply.
Gemini 4 Argon scored 165 on the Epoch Capabilities Index (ECI), matching Fable 5.1 at 165. It trails Opus 5.5 at 167 and GPT-6 Astra at 166. Argon is Google's strongest ECI result since Gemini 3.1 Pro in February, and a marked improvement over Gemini 3.8 Flash's 157.
Gemini 4 Argon scores 165 on the Epoch Capabilities Index (ECI), on par with Fable 5.1 (165) but behind Opus 5.5 (167) and GPT-6 Astra (166).
